Wagoner, OK…….The citizens of Wagoner invite you to join in their annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration.  The special public events are planned for Monday, January 21st.

Scheduled activities to include an 11:00am - Traditional March / Parade from the intersection of Gertrude and Cherokee.  Parade will travel West on Cherokee and end at Semore Park in downtown Wagoner.  Immediately following the Parade there will be a praise ceremony with free coffee, hot chocolate and cookies provided.  The Celebration will then adjourn to the Wagoner HS Performing Arts Center for the All-Community Choir, youth speeches and guest speaker Jonita Ford Criddle.    Following the inspiring words of Ms. Criddle attendees will adjourn to the high school cafeteria for the “Cooking with Soul Cookoff.”  The Soul Food cook-off has become an annual favorite.  There are four categories Main and Side Dishes, Desserts and People’s Choice.  There is no registration fee and prizes are awarded.  Soul food is classified as any food that soothes your soul.  We encourage everyone to enter or sample the delicious food.

Larry Abernathy City Councilman and MLK Committee Chair reports “Each year our celebration has grown and we are excited about the plans for this year.  Our special speaker Ms. Criddle is a Wagoner native.  She is well known throughout the state for over 36 years as a special education teacher, Edison HS basketball coach, mentor and community volunteer. She was inducted into the Tulsa Public Schools Athletic Legends Hall of Fame in 2018.  We are looking forward to her message to the community.”
