City Council and Public Works Authority

Wagoner is governed as a statutory aldermanic form of government.  The City of Wagoner City Council is composed of 8 members and the mayor. Each of the 4 wards elects 2 representatives with voting rights, and the mayor votes only to break a tie. Meetings are held in the City Hall meeting room at 6:00pm the first Monday of each month unless it falls on a holiday. The four wards are as follows:

The city's governing board is a council made up of eight members and the mayor. Each of the 4 wards elects 2 representatives with voting rights, and the mayor votes only to break a tie. Elections are held every two years, on the first Tuesday in odd-numbered years. The council member must reside in the ward they represent, but are elected city-wide. The council is the policy and budget making body for all city branches of government. The city council members are also the trustees for the Wagoner Public Works Authority, the entity that controls electric, water and waste water distribution, and the City of Wagoner Economic Development Authority. 

The Council holds regular monthly meetings in the City Hall meeting room at 7:00pm the first Monday of each month unless it falls on a holiday and special meetings as required.  Agendas are posted at the normal meeting location which is City Hall. Council meetings are conducted by the mayor who serves a four-year term and is paid a part time salary.

The City of Wagoner Public Works Authority (WPWA) and the City of Wagoner Economic Developent Authority meet on the same evenings as Council, and the same representatives sit on both the Authoritys as Trustees. The mayor serves as chairman of the WPWA, and WEDA represents the city meetings and functions. In addition to electing a mayor and council, citizens also elect the city clerk, city treasurer and chief of police every four years. The clerk and police chief receive full-time salaries while the treasurer's job is part time.
